FOR PARENTS & GUARDIANS
Safety
Safety is our top priority. All of our volunteers must undergo a background check before becoming a volunteer. All of our Cadets are under adult supervision during every training event. Safety briefings are also included in our Sea Cadet training curriculum.
Cost
We work hard to keep enrollment fees and Program costs down in an effort to be accessible to anyone who many want to join us. Our annual enrollment fee is $310 for the first year / $210 when a sibling joins, $200 for subsequent years and 50% discount on all fees when siblings renew. A Sea Cadet must also complete at least one annual training event of at least 5 days. These are conducted all around the country during typical summer and winter school breaks. Costs are typically $150/per week or $200/10 day. This training fee covers instruction, room, and food, but NOT travel to and from training site.
Sea Cadets is not a branch of the U.S. Navy, but we do receive $1.7 million annually from the Commander, Naval Recruiting Command. We also receive $4.3 million annually from the U.S. Congress. These funds are used to help keep our enrollment costs and summer/winter training costs as low as possible.

Time Commitment
Sea Cadets should not interfere with a Cadet's schoolwork. We meet on a bi-monthly basis during the school year. Normally, training away from home is conducted only during school vacation periods. You may actually find that your child takes a more serious approach to their schoolwork due to the discipline and emphasis on excellence that this program instills in its Cadets. Cadets are also required to be full-time students at a school or home-school program to enroll in Sea Cadets.
Inclusion
We strongly believe in the positive impact that our program has on our nation, our sea services, and our youth. It is important to us that we are accessible to anyone who wants to join us regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual identity, socio-economic, geographic background, or physical disability. We are Title IX and ADA-compliant. Promoting a culture of inclusion across our diverse unit is something we take very seriously. We have a zero tolerance policy for hazing and bullying.
